Kenyan customers pay with what's in their pocket: M-Pesa first, cards second, bank transfers when the amount is large. If your invoices only support one of those, you're leaving money on the table.
OrdaBill routes payments through Paystack, which supports all three channels. Here's how the flow works end to end.
What the customer sees
Every invoice carries a payment link. Tapping it opens a checkout where the customer picks a method:
- M-Pesa — a prompt is sent to their phone; they confirm with their PIN.
- Card — Visa or Mastercard details in a secure Paystack-hosted page.
- Bank transfer — a generated account for larger payments.
The card details never touch OrdaBill's servers. Paystack hosts the checkout and handles PCI compliance.
What happens after they pay
- Paystack confirms the transaction and signs a webhook notification.
- OrdaBill verifies the signature — a tampered or forged notification is rejected.
- The invoice is marked paid and the payment is recorded against the customer.
- Your dashboard updates in real time.
How settlement works
Paystack settles each payment according to your account configuration. In OrdaBill, the platform fee is calculated from your configured fee rate, and every payment is posted to the ledger with both legs — the tenant share and the platform share — so you can always see exactly how much of each shilling went where.
What you need to get started
- A Paystack business account (test mode is fine to begin with).
- Your API keys added to your OrdaBill settings.
- A settlement bank account configured in Paystack for payouts.
